With limited resources available to schools, New Jersey School Boards Association is looking at Environmental Sustainability as a means for districts to remain viable for the foreseeable future. The process of becoming a sustainable school can have many pathways but ultimately intended to improve the physical plant by creating economically feasible options, while at the same time optimizing the learning environment for students. Currently, there is limited data and information on the process of greening an existing school building. Less information can be found regarding decisions made by a board of education as it relates to financial, policy, contracts and strategic plans to create sustainable learning environments. This project will address the various ways schools approach sustainability. Data will be collected and the results will be made available to all NJ schools.
